Lugar común

Lugar común is an expanding visual archive assembled from fragments of the built environment documented in cities across Latin America, a territory whose cultural homogeneity is the product of a history as shared as it is contested. Rather than organising images around specific places, the project gathers visual fragments that enter into new relations through proximity, repetition and difference, producing a field open to multiple forms of interpretation and editing.

From this process of accumulation and reorganisation, a landscape emerges that can be understood as one city and many at once. Classifications — formal, material, programmatic, stylistic — surface without fully settling, oscillating between the common and the particular, the banal and the extraordinary, operating as a form of insistence rather than as a closed typology. What holds them together is not homogeneity but a series of partial correspondences: a territory as familiar as it is foreign.
